During a Directed Study course with Lisa Abendroth at Metropolitan State College of Denver, I was able to explore the techniques and practices associated with reflexive communication design. This is still an under-investigated aspect of visual design today, especially as it relates to the dialogue between message-sender and receiver or audience. This visual essay poster series seeks to address some of experimentation and modes that Jan van Toorn (a pioneer of RCD) worked in. I hope to continue my research in this area someday and publish a book that takes a serious and thorough approach to understanding the development of a critical practice.
